Webb-Crownover Cabin Completion

The Lawrence Outdoor Classroom now has a trailhead. The reconstruction of the Webb-Crownover cabin is complete down to the bronze plaque and it is a fitting trailhead for our wonderful nature trail. Historic Mesquite, Inc. is so grateful for funding by the Mesquite Rotary Club for the cabin. With the nature trail and signage complete and the cabin reconstructed, HMI is looking forward to developing a plan for the amphitheater at the end of the trail. Once plans are in place for the amphitheater, work will begin to seek funding for the final piece of the Lawrence Outdoor Classroom.

  1. This historic cabin is such a wonderful tribute to Bedford. And what would Mesquite history be with out the Galloways and Franklins?

  2. The cabin was built by my Great-Great Grandfather, Alexander W Webb in Longcreek (now Sunnyvale)around 1840. Alexander Webb was married to Lucinda Crownover and they were among the first to settle in the Mesquite-Sunnyvale area. Alexander Webb was a Captain in the Texas Rangers who commanded a group of Texas Rangers and built Bird's Fort near Ft Worth and responsible for protecting settlers from Indians.
