National Trust Partners Meeting

In October, 2009, Charlene had the priviledge of being invited to a reception honoring Mrs. Laura W. Bush and Mr. John L. Nau, III at the National Trust Partners Meeting in Nashville. Mrs. Bush and Mr. Nau were awarded the John H. Chafee Trustees Award for Outstanding Achievement in Public Policy for their work wtih the Preserve America program. The best part, though, was Charlene and her follow Texans all being invited to the reception and getting to hang out with the former First Lady!

Florence Ranch Homestead Buggy

Our pretty little "Hug-Me-Tight" buggy is back in one piece again after recieving a new shaft. Lynn Rockwood did the research to find a replacement piece for the one that was broken. Now Lynn has installed the replacement part and painted it to look good as new. These little two seater was once used for courting and such. Come view the buggy when you visit the Florence Ranch Homestead.

Lawrence Homestead Outdoor Classroom

Work has begun on Phase One of the LHOC which consists of the outdoor classroom nature trail. This portion of the project is 100% funded by: Union Pacific Foundation, Summerlee Foundation, Historic Mesquite, Inc., Keep Mesquite Beautiful, Inc., City of Mesquite Arts Council, and the City of Mesquite. I cannot wait to see this trail full of children next spring during our "Big Event" school field trips. It should be an awesome addition to the day and one the kids will really enjoy.

Dinner Under the Cedars Wrap Up!

Lots of work was done by numerous volunteers and many wonderful sponsors came forward to support the preservation work of Historic Mesquite, Inc. Although the economy continues to struggle, it looks like the bottom line for Dinner Under the Cedars will be very much like last year. Thanks for all your help. We still have a few auction items that need to be paid for and picked up and a few invoices yet to be paid but we made money in spite of tough times and even more important, we had a great event. More on the details later.
